March 15, 2018 - SIOG member Supriya Mohile honored with ASCO 2018 BJ Kennedy Award

Supriya Gupta Mohile, MD, MS, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and a SIOG member since 2008, is the recipient of the 2018 B.J. Kennedy Award for Scientific Excellence in Geriatric Oncology.

A board-certified geriatrician and medical oncologist with clinical expertise in gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers, Dr. Mohile's research interests include the evaluation of patterns of care, health outcomes, and quality of life related to cancer treatment in older patients. In 2013, she was awarded a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute Award and an NCI R01 to evaluate whether geriatric assessment can improve outcomes of older patients with cancer. She directs the Specialized Oncology Care & Research in the Elderly geriatric oncology clinic at the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital and is an integral member of the University of Rochester NCI Community Oncology Research Program Research Base which is directed by Dr. Gary Morrow. She currently is on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, is Editor in Chief of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology, and she previously served as Chair of the ASCO Geriatric Oncology Course Planning Committee.

This award was created in 2007 in honor of B.J. Kennedy, MD. This award and lectureship recognizes an ASCO member who has made outstanding contributions to the research, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the elderly, and in bringing an understanding of geriatric oncology to fellows and junior faculty.
